Nesco Data Center is seeking an experienced Senior Network Consultant to provide proactive technical consulting, network administration, and infrastructure optimization services in the Greater Bethesda, MD area. This role focuses on maintaining secure, reliable, and high-performing IT environments through preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, security updates, and technical documentation. This is a part-time role working onsite Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
Key Responsibilities:
Configure, maintain, and optimize network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, and network security.
Administer supported storage systems, directory services, email accounts, DNS, DHCP, and print services.
Monitor network and system performance, identify bottlenecks, troubleshoot recurring issues, and recommend improvements.
Manage approved firmware updates, security patches, certificate renewals, and credential rotations.
Monitor UPS systems and test network redundancy, failover capabilities, and system recovery procedures.
Perform routine system maintenance, configuration changes, backup integrity testing, and data restoration assistance.
Maintain accurate technical documentation, network diagrams, system inventories, software licensing records, and lifecycle information.
Provide service reports, identify potential risks, and collaborate with operational leadership to prioritize maintenance and recommend infrastructure improvements.
Scope of Services:
This role primarily supports existing, approved infrastructure and routine maintenance activities. End-user support, new system deployments, major upgrades, database administration, formal training, unsupported technologies, and large-scale projects are outside the standard scope unless separately authorized.
Ideal Candidate:
Strong experience in network administration, infrastructure support, and systems troubleshooting.
Working knowledge of switching, routing, firewalls, VPNs, directory services, and core network services.
Experience with security maintenance, system performance optimization, disaster recovery testing, and technical documentation.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
