If you thrive in environments where you leading quality processes in a manufacturing environment, our Senior Manager of Quality role might be the perfect fit for you!
THE ROLE:
The Senior Manager of Quality provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of quality assurance, quality control, welding quality, inspection activities, nonconformance management, corrective and preventive actions, and continuous improvement initiatives across fabrication operations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:1. Quality Management System Leadership Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve the company's Quality Management System. Establish quality policies, procedures, work instructions, inspection plans, and quality objectives aligned with business and customer requirements. Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and codes, including AWS, AISC, ASTM, and other customer-specific or contractually required standards, as applicable. Lead internal, external, customer, and third-party quality audits. Maintain quality documentation, inspection records, material traceability, certifications, and required project quality records. Establish and report key quality performance indicators (KPIs) to senior leadership.2. Quality Control and Fabrication Oversight Provide leadership and oversight for quality control activities throughout the steel fabrication process, including material receiving, cutting, drilling, fit-up, welding, assembly, dimensional inspection, coating, and final shipment. Ensure inspection and test plans (ITPs), hold points, witness points, and acceptance criteria are established and followed. Verify that fabricated products conform to approved drawings, revisions, specifications, tolerances, and contract requirements. Oversee inspection methods and documentation for dimensional verification, weld inspection, material identification, and coating quality, as applicable. Ensure appropriate qualification and control of welding procedures, welders, and welding operators in accordance with applicable codes and contract requirements. Coordinate nondestructive examination (NDE/NDT) activities and review inspection results in accordance with applicable requirements. Partner with Production to resolve quality issues without compromising safety, compliance, or product integrity.3. Nonconformance and Corrective Action Management Lead the identification, documentation, evaluation, and disposition of nonconforming materials, processes, and finished products. Establish and manage root cause analysis and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes. Monitor corrective actions to ensure timely completion and verify their effectiveness. Analyze recurring defects, weld rejections, dimensional errors, rework, and customer complaints to identify systemic issues. Implement preventive measures that reduce quality failures, production interruptions, and the cost of poor quality. Ensure appropriate approval and documentation for repairs, rework, deviations, and concessions.4. Leadership and Team Development Lead, develop, and mentor Quality Assurance personnel, Quality Control Inspectors, welding inspectors, and other quality team members. Establish clear performance expectations, staffing plans, training requirements, and professional development objectives. Ensure quality personnel maintain required qualifications and certifications for their assigned responsibilities. Promote accountability, consistency, and collaboration between Quality and Production. Build a proactive quality culture in which defects are prevented rather than simply detected at final inspection.5. Customer and Supplier Quality Serve as the senior quality representative for customer interactions, quality reviews, audits, and technical discussions. Manage customer complaints, quality notifications, corrective action requests, and resolution activities. Coordinate with Procurement and Supply Chain to evaluate supplier quality performance and address material or subcontractor deficiencies. Establish supplier quality expectations, inspection requirements, and performance monitoring processes. Support contract reviews to identify quality requirements, inspection obligations, documentation deliverables, and compliance risks before production begins. Ensure timely and accurate delivery of material certifications, inspection reports, weld documentation, and final quality packages.6. Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence Develop and execute quality improvement initiatives that reduce defects, scrap, rework, warranty costs, and customer dissatisfaction. Use data-driven problem-solving techniques, including root cause analysis, Pareto analysis, trend analysis, and corrective action verification. Establish and monitor quality KPIs, including first-pass yield, weld rejection rate, rework hours, nonconformance frequency, customer complaints, and cost of poor quality. Collaborate with Operations to improve process capability, standardize best practices, and strengthen production controls. Support lean manufacturing, process improvement, and operational excellence initiatives. Promote risk-based thinking and early identification of potential quality issues throughout the project lifecycle.7. Regulatory, Code, and Documentation Compliance Maintain awareness of changes to applicable fabrication codes, standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements. Ensure quality records are accurate, complete, controlled, and retained in accordance with contractual and company requirements. Support required third-party inspections, certifications, and quality program assessments. Ensure material heat numbers, mill test reports, consumable records, welder qualifications, inspection results, and other traceability requirements are properly maintained where applicable. Support the preparation and maintenance of quality manuals, procedures, audit documentation, and project-specific quality plans.
