Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Tool Designer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design and development of jigs, fixtures, gauges, and custom tooling used in the manufacturing and assembly of precision components. The ideal candidate will possess strong CAD skills, a deep understanding of machining processes, and a practical, hands-on approach to problem solving.
Key Responsibilities:
Design tooling, workholding fixtures, inspection gauges, and manufacturing aids to support machining, assembly, and testing operations.
Collaborate with manufacturing engineers, machinists, and quality teams to develop effective and cost-efficient tool designs.
Use 3D CAD software (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor) to produce detailed models and fully dimensioned drawings.
Select appropriate materials, fasteners, and components for tool builds.
Conduct design reviews to validate function, safety, and manufacturability.
Generate and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) for tool designs.
Provide support during tooling fabrication, debugging, and implementation.
Incorporate continuous improvement feedback and participate in tooling revisions as needed.
Ensure designs comply with applicable safety, ergonomic, and performance standards.
Qualifications:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).3+ years of experience in tool, fixture, or mechanical design—preferably in a machining or industrial manufacturing environment.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Creo preferred).Working knowledge of machining processes, tolerances, GD&T, and material selection.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
Hands-on experience working with machinists, welders, or fabrication teams is a plus.
Preferred Experience:
Experience designing hydraulic or pneumatic fixtures.
Exposure to lean manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
Familiarity with CNC machining environments and tooling requirements.
Understanding of FEA or tolerance stack-up analysis is a bonus.
