Greater Comfort Mechanical is an established regional mechanical contractor serving Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee since 2005.We are seeking an experienced Lead Commercial HVAC Installer who takes pride in quality craftsmanship, leads by example, and possesses the technical expertise and leadership skills to successfully execute commercial HVAC installation projects. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring someone who can work alongside their crew, take ownership of assigned projects, overcome installation challenges, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. Our projects include commercial HVAC equipment replacements, retrofits, new installations, and a wide range of mechanical and ventilation applications. This is an INSTALLATION position, not a service or maintenance technician position. Candidates must have substantial hands-on commercial HVAC installation experience.
What You'll Be Doing
Commercial HVAC Equipment Installation: Replace commercial rooftop units (RTUs), including field-measuring for curb adapters. Lay out, position, and install new rooftop equipment curbs. Install light-commercial and conventional residential-style split systems in commercial applications. Install ductless mini-split systems and replace water-source heat pumps. Install gas-fired and electric unit heaters. Install and replace commercial make-up air units. Ductwork, Ventilation & PipingField-measure, lay out, and install commercial sheet metal ductwork. Install both slip-and-drive (S&D) and TDC flanged, bolt-together duct systems. Install rooftop upblast exhaust fans, roof curbs, and inline exhaust fans. Install refrigerant piping circuits, including ACR Press & Brazing, pressure testing, and evacuation. Install and connect gas piping for commercial heating equipment. Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and equipment specifications.
Crew Leadership & Job-Site Responsibilities: Lead and work alongside commercial HVAC installation crews. Plan and coordinate daily installation activities, materials, tools, and equipment. Provide hands-on guidance and training to apprentices and less-experienced installers. Identify installation challenges and develop practical solutions. Communicate job progress, scheduling needs, and project concerns with installation management. Maintain high standards for workmanship, safety, efficiency, and job-site organization. Take ownership of assigned projects from start to finish. Equipment Rigging & LiftsSafely operate scissor lifts and boom lifts with appropriate training and authorization. Apply proper rigging practices when lifting, positioning, and setting commercial HVAC equipment. Assist with coordinating crane lifts and rooftop equipment placement. Follow proper fall protection, rigging, and job-site safety procedures.
What We're Looking For: Required Qualifications 5+ years of hands-on commercial HVAC installation experience. Valid Kentucky Journeyman License. EPA Section 608 Universal Certification. Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets company insurability requirements. Strong experience with commercial HVAC equipment replacements and installations. Experience with rooftop units, curb measurements, ductwork, refrigerant piping, and gas piping. Hands-on experience operating scissor lifts and boom lifts. Practical experience with commercial HVAC equipment rigging and placement. Ability to read mechanical drawings and installation specifications. Demonstrated ability to lead a crew while performing hands-on installation work. Ability to work independently, make sound field decisions, and complete assigned projects with limited supervision. Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Preferred Experience & Certifications (Not Required): The following experience and certifications are considered a plus but are not required for this position:
  • VRF/VRV system installation experience.
  • Walk-in cooler refrigeration installation experience.
  • Commercial kitchen hood installation experience.
  • Stainless steel and black iron commercial kitchen exhaust ductwork experience.
  • Formal rigging certification.
  • Documented scissor lift and boom lift operator training or certification.
