Multiple Faculty Searches

Multiple Faculty Searches Department of Physics - UC Berkeley The Physics Department at the University of California, Berkeley is actively recruiting for multiple tenure track Assistant Professor positions. These searches are in the following areas: Atomic, Molecular, & Optical (AMO) Physics Theory: We welcome applicants from across the full range of theoretical AMO subfields, especially those who will make fundamental contributions to theory and exhibit strong synergy with experimental AMO research. Candidates from subfields in quantum simulation, many-body quantum mechanics, emergent phenomena and entangled systems, connections to quantum information science, quantum optics, precision measurement and tests of fundamental physics, ultracold molecules and chemistry, ultrafast optics, and others are encouraged to apply. Condensed Matter Experiment: We welcome applicants across all areas, including but not limited to, quantum magnetism, topological phases, unconventional superconductivity, spintronics, and novel quantum order arising in exotic materials in three dimensional and low dimensional systems, such as van der Waals and layered heterostructures. Areas of expertise of interest include, but are not limited to, the synthesis of bulk and thin film materials, advanced spectroscopic and scattering techniques, quantum and mesoscopic transport, and microscopic imaging and scanning probe techniques. We also encourage applications at the interface of condensed matter physics and quantum information science. Open Search: We welcome applicants in a broad open search in space sciences, astrophysics, and experimental nuclear and particle physics. Areas of emphasis include space sciences, theory or experiment, including space and solar plasma physics, gravitational waves, black hole imaging, gamma ray astrophysics, multi-messenger astronomy, radio cosmology, cosmic rays, and dark matter; astrophysics experiment, including gravity wave detection and space plasma physics; observational and theoretical astrophysics focused on the use and development of data science techniques and machine learning; and experimental nuclear and particle physics focused on fundamental symmetries of nature, including CP and time reversal symmetry, family and lepton number symmetries, and matter-antimatter symmetry. Applicants must submit a separate application to each position of interest. Berkeley Physics and its partners are committed to establishing cultures that nurture scientific identity and remove barriers to entry, in order to strengthen pathways into careers. To that end, we strive to work and learn together in a positive and inclusive environment. Please visit UC Berkeley Physics' Equity & Inclusion website for more information. Berkeley Physics has a long history of excellence in teaching, research, and service, as well as a culture that values and promotes interdisciplinarity. It has a compelling record of national and global engagement, and benefits from strong relationships with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and other research labs and industry. Berkeley Physics is committed to addressing personal and family needs of faculty. For more information, refer to OFEW New Faculty site. The University of California is committed to creating and maintaining a community dedicated to the advancement, application, and transmission of knowledge and creative endeavors through academic excellence, where all individuals who participate in university programs and activities can work and learn together in a safe and secure environment, free of violence, harassment, discrimination, exploitation, or intimidation. Consistent with this commitment, UC Berkeley requires all applicants for Senate faculty positions to complete, sign, and upload an Authorization of Information Release form into AP Recruit as part of their application. If an applicant does not include the signed authorization, the application will be considered incomplete, and as with any incomplete application, will not receive further consideration. Although all applicants for faculty recruitment must complete the entire application, applicants will only be subject to reference checks if and when they are selected as the candidate to whom the hiring unit would like to extend a formal offer.
