Field Engineer – Heavy Civil | Top ENR Contractor | Newark, NJA top-ranked ENR heavy civil contractor is seeking a motivated Field Engineer to join its Newark, NJ team. If you have 4+ years of heavy civil experience, and structural steel fabrication and erection is part of your background, this is a chance to build your career on major infrastructure work.
About the Role:
You’ll be the link between field crews, subcontractors, and project management, supporting planning, coordination, quality control, documentation, and scheduling on complex infrastructure projects.
What You’ll Do:- Support project management and field supervision with daily construction operations
- Coordinate and monitor work by subcontractors, suppliers, and self-perform crews
- Review plans, specifications, shop drawings, and contract documents for compliance
- Track project progress and assist with schedule updates
- Perform quantity takeoffs and support cost tracking
- Prepare and maintain daily reports, production reports, and field documentation
- Coordinate inspections with owners, engineers, consultants, and regulatory agencies
- Manage RFIs, submittals, and material tracking logs
- Support quality control and verify work meets contract requirements
- Verify field quantities and assist with surveying and layout
- Participate in project meetings and document minutes and action items
- Coordinate procurement and delivery of materials and equipment
- Identify potential project issues and escalate them to project leadership
- Champion company safety initiatives and project safety programs
- What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technology, or a similar field from an accredited institution 4+ years of construction experience on heavy civil, bridge, transportation, utility, or infrastructure projects, ideally with a civil infrastructure or heavy civil GCAbility to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with MS Office, plus working knowledge of Procore, HCSS, Bluebeam, and Primavera P6 (Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, or BIM a plus)
Strongly Preferred
Experience supporting structural steel fabrication and erection
Knowledge of AISC standards and structural steel construction practices
Experience on bridge, transit, rail, airport, marine, or tunnel projectsEIT certification or progress toward a PE license
