Communicate with equipment operators and production personnel to understand failure conditions, inspect equipment, identify causes, and return equipment to safe operating condition. Test repaired equipment, verify proper operation of safeguards and controls, and communicate equipment status before release to production. Participate in root cause failure analysis by documenting failure conditions, identifying contributing factors, and recommending corrective actions. Perform other related duties as assigned consistent with the purpose and scope of the position. Maintain and repair all major coil-processing equipment, including coil cars, uncoiler, peeler tables, pinch rolls, levelers, slitter mechanical systems, scrap choppers, tension stands, recoiler. Maintain and repair overhead bridge cranes, jib cranes, banding equipment, and associated material-handling systems. Initiate crane inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs involving brakes, motors, gearboxes, limit switches, festoon systems, radio controls, VFDs, wire ropes, and related components; engage qualified outside contractors when specialized support is required. Perform general building, grounds, and facility repairs as assigned. Troubleshoot, dismantle, inspect, repair, rebuild, and assemble mechanical systems and heavy industrial equipment. Perform bearing installation and removal, with proper attention to fit, handling, lubrication, and damage prevention. Diagnose and repair gearboxes, drive systems, shafts, couplings, chains, sprockets, belts, rolls, and other rotating equipment. Perform shaft, coupling, belt, chain, sprocket, and roll alignment using appropriate precision measuring and alignment methods. Use drawings, manuals, equipment history, measurements, and operating observations to plan and complete repairs. Read and interpret hydraulic and pneumatic schematics and technical documentation. Diagnose, repair, and maintain hydraulic power units, pumps, cylinders, valves, hoses, tubing, fittings, filters, and associated components. Set and verify hydraulic pressures and flows; rebuild hydraulic cylinders and pumps when appropriate. Perform hydraulic contamination-control and filtration activities using clean work practices. Diagnose and repair pneumatic circuits, cylinders, valves, actuators, tubing, fittings, air-preparation equipment, positioning systems, and pneumatic logic or control devices. Safely troubleshoot, repair, and replace industrial electrical equipment and circuits up to 600 VAC and VDC.Diagnose and replace motors, motor starters, contactors, relays, sensors, switches, circuit-protection devices, transformers, wiring, and related components. Use appropriate electrical test instruments to identify faults in power, control, and signal circuits. Troubleshoot equipment controlled by Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, Allen-Bradley CompactLogix, including PLC inputs and outputs and machine fault conditions. Troubleshoot VFDs, servo drives, DC drives, encoders, HMIs/operator interfaces, Ethernet/IP networks, Profinet networks, and related motion or control systems. Transfer approved programs, firmware, parameters, and device settings to replacement components as needed to restore operation. Perform stick welding (SMAW), MIG welding (GMAW), oxy-fuel cutting, plasma cutting, grinding, and general metal fabrication for equipment repairs and maintenance needs. Fabricate or repair guards, brackets, supports, and general machine components when authorized and consistent with approved safety requirements. Use overhead cranes during maintenance activities and safely select, inspect, and use slings and other lifting devices appropriate for the load and task. Operate forklifts, aerial lifts, and scissor lifts when trained and authorized. Use the SAP computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to create work orders, document completed work, and assign parts used to work orders. Record clear, accurate information regarding failure conditions, work performed, components replaced, and equipment status. Use maintenance history and parts information to support troubleshooting and future planned work. Character is essential to success in this position.
