Our client, a rapidly growing financial services, investment, and technology organization operating across private markets and alternative investments, is seeking a Vice President of Corporate Development & Strategy to help shape and execute the company’s next phase of growth. This role is particularly well suited for someone who brings direct experience within alternative investments or private markets, combined with strong strategic, investment, and transaction capabilities. The successful candidate should understand the alternatives ecosystem from an investment, portfolio, or fund perspective- not solely from an investment banking or transaction-advisory lens. Relevant backgrounds may include fund-of-funds, secondaries, GP stakes, co-investments, private equity, private credit, private real assets, alternative investment portfolio management, investment strategy, or broader private-markets investing. The individual will work closely with senior executives to evaluate new markets, investment capabilities, strategic partnerships, minority investments, potential acquisitions, and other growth opportunities. The role combines investment judgment, strategic evaluation, and transaction execution, with meaningful exposure to senior leadership and multiple areas of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:- Evaluate potential growth opportunities across private markets and alternative investments, including new investment capabilities, products, partnerships, minority investments, strategic investments, and acquisitions.
- Assess opportunities through both a strategic and investment lens, including market attractiveness, investment rationale, competitive positioning, portfolio implications, economics, and potential returns.
- Conduct detailed research across alternative-investment markets, managers, strategies, fund structures, and emerging areas of opportunity.
- Evaluate fund managers, investment platforms, portfolios, GP relationships, co-investment opportunities, secondary transactions, and other private-market opportunities, as relevant.
- Develop business cases and recommendations around new markets, investment strategies, products, strategic initiatives, and potential transactions.
- Perform financial analysis, valuation, scenario modeling, return analysis, and other quantitative work required to evaluate investment and strategic opportunities.
- Support and manage transaction and investment diligence across financial, commercial, investment, operational, legal, and other workstreams.
- Partner with internal investment, finance, legal, product, and commercial teams, as well as external advisors and counterparties, to move opportunities from initial assessment through decision and execution.
- Monitor developments across private equity, private credit, real assets, secondaries, co-investments, GP stakes, and other alternative-investment markets.
- Translate complex investment and market analysis into clear recommendations for senior leadership.
- Prepare investment memoranda, executive presentations, strategic plans, market assessments, financial analyses, and decision materials.
- Work across functions to drive alignment around high-priority strategic and investment initiatives.
- Help establish appropriate KPIs and measurement frameworks for major strategic programs and new initiatives.
- Manage multiple complex projects and investment opportunities simultaneously.
- Lead select strategic projects on behalf of senior leadership.
- Utilize appropriate technology, AI, and automation tools to improve research, investment analysis, diligence, and execution.
- Ideal Candidates Will Bring 8+ years of relevant professional experience, with meaningful direct exposure to alternative investments or private markets.
- Experience within areas such as fund-of-funds, secondaries, GP stakes, co-investments, private equity, private credit, private real assets, portfolio management, investment strategy, or alternative-investment solutions.
- A strong understanding of the alternative-investment ecosystem, including fund structures, managers, underlying investments, portfolio construction, valuation, liquidity, risk, and return considerations.
- Experience evaluating investment opportunities from a principal, allocator, portfolio-management, or investment-strategy perspective.
- Experience assessing or executing M&A transactions, minority investments, strategic investments, partnerships, joint ventures, or other growth initiatives.
- Strong financial analysis and modeling capabilities, including the ability to evaluate investment opportunities, business models, strategic alternatives, and potential transaction economics.
- Experience conducting investment, commercial, and/or transaction diligence.
- The ability to independently evaluate ambiguous opportunities, synthesize large amounts of information, and develop clear investment and strategic recommendations.
- Experience working with senior executives, investment committees, or other senior decision-makers.
- Strong project-management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and workstreams.
- Experience working with external parties such as GPs, asset managers, investment banks, legal advisors, consultants, investors, and strategic partners.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to influence stakeholders across functions and levels of seniority.
