Position: Part Time/Café Assistant
Savannah Technical College seeks a part-time Professional Laboratory Assistant. This individual is responsible for: Assisting with daily café operations, including opening and closing procedures. Providing outstanding customer service to students, faculty, staff, and community guests. Preparing and serve coffee, espresso beverages, specialty drinks, and light café menu items. Receiving, display, and merchandise baked goods and pastries produced by Baking and Pastry students. Maintaining attractive product displays and ensure proper food presentation. Operating the point-of-sale (POS) system and accurately process transactions. Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the café, dining area, and service stations. Monitoring inventory levels and assist with stocking supplies. Following all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations. Supporting faculty by helping create an efficient learning environment during laboratory production and service. Assisting with catering events, campus functions, and special culinary showcases as needed. Modeling professionalism and excellent hospitality practices for students.
Minimum Qualifications:- High school diploma or GEDMust be ServSafe Manager certified
- Must have 2 years of verifiable entry level experience within the hospitality field
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience in a café, bakery, coffee shop, or restaurant.
- Retail experience or like sales experience, to include customer service, POS experience, and general selling activities
- Experience operating a POS system.
- Knowledge of coffee preparation and basic barista skills.
- Familiarity with food safety and sanitation practices.
- Experience working in an educational or training environment.
Physical Demands:
Responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for three (3) – four (4) continuous hours at a time. The employee frequently lifts/carries objects that weigh 50lbs. or less. Full range of hand and finger motion is required for data entry purposes.
Salary/Benefits: Salary is commensurate with education and work experience.
