About Global Risks Fund Global Risks Fund is a newly established philanthropic organization dedicated to reducing catastrophic risks across multiple domains including nuclear weapons, biological threats, and advanced artificial intelligence. The organization operates within a specialized sector of nuclear security philanthropy, which historically has been a smaller field focused on critical security challenges. Global Risks Fund is entering this space as a new funder with substantial capital available for deployment and minimal pre-existing commitments, positioning itself to make significant contributions to the field. The organization was founded by mission-driven, entrepreneurial leaders with extensive experience in building and scaling organizations. The team is characterized by their ability to operate at the intersection of analysis, organizational development, and external engagement. Global Risks Fund recognizes that modern tools and technologies—including artificial intelligence, open data systems, and satellite imagery—have advanced rapidly and often outpaced traditional approaches in the nuclear security field. This reality informs the organization’s strategic approach to identifying and funding innovative solutions. Global Risks Fund is structured as a startup-oriented environment despite its philanthropic mandate, which enables it to move quickly, experiment with novel approaches, and incubate promising initiatives internally. The organization is launching with an ambitious multi-year vision to reduce nuclear risk through a combination of grants, investments, and direct program development. The team is building systems, tools, and networks designed to scale impact without proportional increases in organizational overhead.
About this Role:
As a Frontier Risk Strategist for Nuclear, you will serve as a critical member of Global Risks Fund’s leadership team, working at the intersection of strategic planning, operational implementation, and field engagement. This role is designed for someone who thrives in a dynamic, startup-like environment while leveraging sophisticated analytical and organizational skills to advance the organization’s mission of reducing nuclear risk. You will be responsible for helping to launch new organizations and designing novel initiatives that address emerging threats in the nuclear security landscape. You will maintain deep involvement in promising initiatives from their initial conceptualization through building and scaling phases, ensuring that Global Risks Fund’s resources are deployed strategically and that funded organizations receive appropriate guidance and support. You will also establish and oversee the operational systems that enable the nuclear portfolio to function effectively, including pipeline tracking mechanisms, grantee reporting frameworks, and comprehensive field mapping tools. By leveraging modern technology platforms, you will help the program scale its impact without requiring proportional increases in headcount, allowing the team to remain lean and efficient as it grows. Finally, you will develop compelling written materials including strategic memos, concept notes, and pitch materials designed to attract partners, funders, and talent to work on reducing nuclear risks.
