Sanitation Truck Driver Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range shown on the announcement reflects the starting salary range for the assigned pay grade. Progression beyond the posted range occurs in accordance with established compensation policies. A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training, and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations. The fundamental reason this classification exists is to operate garbage packers, truck-mounted trash loaders, and other refuse collection vehicles to service the Sanitation Department's customers. Sanitation Truck Drivers serve as the leader of a crew consisting of a driver and two service maintenance workers; drivers are responsible for setting the pace of work and ensuring the safety of the crew and the public. Major work responsibilities may include operating sanitation vehicles, serving as the lead worker for work crews, performing preventative maintenance checks, communicating with customers and the public, and assisting in the performance of manual labor. Although routes are assigned by supervisors, Sanitation Truck Drivers are responsible for ensuring the assigned route is completed in a timely manner. Work is performed with limited immediate supervision and requires drivers to exercise independent judgment while on routes. Supervision is received from the Refuse Collection Supervisor.
