Make it rain. Make Snow. Make Earth Habitable.
Rainmaker builds and deploys audacious technologies that work with nature to create an abundant, habitable planet. We are modernizing proven cloud-seeding science with weather-resistant UAS, radar and satellite observations, numerical weather prediction, novel sensing and validation systems, and sustainable seeding technologies. We are building an integrated system to make more freshwater available to farms, ecosystems, and communities.
Our ambition is bold, but we pursue it with humility. We take on difficult problems in the real world with technical rigor, grit, integrity, and an openness to learning and course-correcting. We are hiring individuals with evidence of exceptional ability. If you want to build systems that endure, restore and deliver the future we were promised, we want to hear from you.
Rainmaker is pioneering a modern cloud seeding system to solve water scarcity and inclement weather problems. We develop and incorporate radar validation, weather-resistant UAS, numerical weather modeling, and sustainable cloud seeds into an effective precipitation enhancement solution.
The Field Scientist is responsible for the installation, maintenance of meteorological instrumentation and data collection systems. The role also involves quality control, data wrangling, and scientific analysis and novel algorithmic development using the various datasets. This role requires a strong understanding of meteorological principles, electronics, and data acquisition systems. The specialist will work closely with meteorologists, engineers, and technicians to ensure the accuracy and reliability of collected data. Additionally, the specialist may be involved in scientific research projects and contribute to publications.
What You'll Do:
Scientific algorithm development: Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in meteorological instrumentation technologies, data collection and quality control, and sensor fusion algorithms. Research and implement methods and techniques to optimally utilize the data streams toward informing precipitation enhancement operations and validation.
Precipitation Enhancement Operations: Assist in precipitation enhancement operations, including preparing equipment, monitoring weather conditions, and deploying seeding agents. Collect and analyze data during and after precipitation enhancement events to evaluate the effectiveness of the operations.
Installation: Install a variety of meteorological sensors, including cloud radar, lidar, sounding packages, and sensors for variables of state. Mount and configure sensors according to manufacturer specifications and project requirements. Install data loggers and communication systems to transmit data to a central location.
Maintenance and repair: Perform routine maintenance on meteorological equipment, including cleaning, calibration, and troubleshooting. Inspect sensors and data loggers for damage or wear and work with the manufacturers to get sensors repaired. Test the accuracy of instruments using standardized procedures. Diagnose and repair faulty meteorological equipment. Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems. Replace damaged or defective parts to maximize continuous operations..
Data Quality Control: Monitor data quality and identify any inconsistencies. Investigate and resolve data quality issues. Ensure the integrity of collected data. Develop software processes to automate quality control workflowsWork with software engineers for proper sensor data handling
Documentation: Maintain detailed records of equipment installations, maintenance, and repairs. Prepare reports on the status of meteorological instrumentation and data collection systems.
Training: Provide training to other staff members on the proper use and maintenance of meteorological equipment.
Required Qualifications: At least a Bachelor's degree in meteorology or atmospheric science.
Strong understanding of meteorological principles and instrumentation.
Experience with data acquisition systems and data analysis techniques.
Ability to assimilate previous research concepts and develop novel applications.
Programming skills (especially Python, but MATLAB, R, and similar are acceptable).
Experience developing workflows for real-time scientific instrumentation data sources.
Knowledge of electronics and electrical circuits.
