Our client is seeking a Backend/Platform Engineer for a contract opportunity. This role builds and operates a high-scale ML orchestration platform that supports online inference, model evaluation, and reliable access to serving infrastructure. No C2C, only W2 6 month contract + extend Priority should/will be given to candidates who are within a 60 mi commutable distance to our Brooklyn office for the first three weeks of posting. From there, if we are unable to find candidates, we will open it up to fully remote.
Responsibilities:
Build and operate distributed, low-latency production services for ML workloads.
Develop orchestration systems connecting product teams with models, features, and serving infrastructure.
Design service APIs and request-routing systems using technologies such as gRPC and queues.
Operate Kubernetes deployments, including scaling, resource management, and production debugging.
Monitor and improve service reliability through metrics, tracing, alerting, on-call ownership, and performance profiling.
Qualifications:
At least 5 years of experience building and operating distributed, low-latency production services.
Back-end engineering experience working on ML systems.
Expertise with the Scala programming language or another functional programming language.
Understanding of production ML inference, including model serving, feature retrieval, batching, latency, throughput, and model evaluation.
Hands-on Kubernetes experience, including deployments, scaling, resource management, and production troubleshooting.
