Tool & Die Making Operations Tool & Die Making Operations focuses on operating computer and/or mechanically controlled machine tools to produce and repair precision metal tools and dies for use in manufacturing including: Analyzing blueprints, computer-aided design (CAD/CAM/CAE) models, and engineering specifications to define the dimensions and features of the cutting/shaping tools, forms, molds, gauges, and jigs/fixtures. Determining the optimal tool path for fabricating the tool/form/mold by selecting appropriate machine tools (e.g., lathes, drill presses, milling machines, grinders, boring machines, etc.) and specifying the sequence of tool operations. Manually setting up/adjusting machine tools and/or loading instructions into computer numeric control (CNC) systems. Recommending revisions in design and/or substitutions in material based on machinability or fabrication problems encountered.
