The successful candidate will work directly with ownership, leading the division's development, carrier relationships, technology, customer acquisition, staffing, and profitability. We want someone who has successfully done this before not someone looking to learn the industry.
Key Responsibilities
Division Development & Management:
Establish and manage a complete domestic freight brokerage operation.
Develop business plans, operating budgets, revenue targets, and profitability objectives.
Create and implement booking procedures, SOPs, and operational workflows.
Build and manage qualified operations, sales, carrier relations, and administrative team.

Rail & Intermodal Transportation:
Develop domestic and cross-border rail/intermodal transportation services.
Establish relationships with rail providers, intermodal marketing companies, and drayage carriers.
Conduct intermodal market analysis, lane pricing, and cost comparisons.
Develop carrier agreements and operational procedures for U.S. and Canadian intermodal movements.

Independently generate new domestic freight customers and revenue.
Establish relationships with manufacturers, distributors, importers, exporters, and commercial shippers.
Negotiate customer contracts, carrier agreements, and transportation pricing.
Pursue freight bids, RFPs, and recurring transportation programs.
Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and strategic pricing.
Develop sales pipelines and expand domestic freight opportunities through existing international forwarding relationships.
Financial Management & Compliance:
Manage the division as a dedicated profit center.
Monitor revenue, gross margins, operating expenses, ROI, KPIs, and profitability.
Establish financial forecasts, budgets, and performance reporting.
Oversee billing, carrier settlements, accounts receivable, and working-capital requirements.
Implement insurance, carrier qualification, fraud prevention, and freight claims procedures.
Maintain knowledge of FMCSA regulations, transportation compliance, and cross-border requirements.
Required Qualifications:

Extensive knowledge of DAT, Truckstop, TMS platforms, and freight booking procedures.
Proven ability to acquire customers and generate profitable freight revenue.
Experience developing SOPs, operating procedures, and transportation technology.
Strong understanding of transportation insurance, compliance, carrier qualifications, and claims.
Experience hiring and managing freight operations, sales, and administrative personnel.
Financial expertise involving margins, profitability, KPIs, ROI, and cash flow.
Strong leadership, negotiation, and entrepreneurial business development abilities.
Rail/intermodal and U.S.–Canada cross-border experience preferred. Candidates must demonstrate both commercial sales expertise and comprehensive operational freight brokerage knowledge.
What Makes This Opportunity Different?
This position offers the opportunity to develop and lead an entire business division within an established international freight forwarding company.
Rather than starting an independent brokerage without existing infrastructure & capitol, the successful candidate can leverage Tri State Forwarding's established corporate foundation, international customer relationships, administrative resources, and logistics expertise.
The selected individual will have substantial influence over business strategy, technology, staffing, commercial development, and long-term growth.
Compensation will be structured around performance-based financial participation, with potential equity or strategic partnership opportunities available for the right individual, subject to mutual agreement.
We are not looking for someone who simply books freight.
We are looking for someone who knows how to build the business, secure the customers, negotiate the contracts, establish the systems, hire the team, and manage the profitability.
If you have the experience, relationships, and ambition to build and lead a domestic freight brokerage division, we invite you to explore this opportunity.
