College Comptroller

Responsibilities: Oversee accounting operations, including capital, unrestricted, and restricted funds, as well as related financial and business functions. Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, accounting standards, and collective bargaining agreements. Develop, implement, and improve financial procedures, internal controls, policies, and cost-effective business processes. Serve as the primary liaison for internal and external financial audits and coordinate required financial and regulatory reporting. Manage departmental budgets, analyze financial data, monitor expenditures, and ensure fiscal accountability. Advise senior leadership, the President, and the Board of Trustees on financial matters, contract administration, labor negotiations, and institutional policies. Support institutional strategic planning, project management, policy development, and operational efficiency initiatives. Supervise and develop staff, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and maintain confidentiality in sensitive administrative and personnel matters.

Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in Accounting or a related field with 3 years of experience in finance, project management, or administration in higher education; or a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field with 5 years of relevant experience. Minimum of 2 years of financial management experience. Strong knowledge of accounting principles, GASB standards, financial reporting, internal controls, and regulatory compliance. Excellent leadership, analytical, communication, problem-solving, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate in higher education administration or a related field. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation. Experience in a community college or unionized environment. Familiarity with higher education management systems, including Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft, Visio, and Adobe.
