Location: United States (US citizens or permanent residents only)
Organisation: The Forever Trust USA (Forever Foundation USA), a Delaware nonprofit corporation and US public charity Appointment: Board Director (voluntary and unpaid; reasonable expenses reimbursed) About The Forever Trust USAThe Forever Trust USA is the US donor-advised fund (DAF) in The Forever Trust family, alongside The Forever Trust in the UK and The Forever Trust Canada. It receives donations from US donors and makes grants to US charities. Through careful due diligence and responsible stewardship, its board directs funding towards causes that deliver lasting change. Many of its donors give through faith-based campaigns, including during Ramadan. We set up The Forever Trust to create impact that lasts forever. To get there, we need to change a lot about how philanthropy works. If you've looked at the charity sector and felt frustrated by short-term thinking, slow progress, or a reluctance to try anything new, you'll find people here who feel the same. We want directors who are bold, curious, and willing to question how things have always been done, while bringing the care and rigour a charity board demands.
The role:
The Foundation has a small board, so each director's participation matters. We are looking for a US-based director who will take part reliably in the board's work: attending meetings (quarterly), reviewing papers, and approving and signing documents promptly. The Foundation is still developing its processes. The right person will be pragmatic and adaptable, comfortable working through some uncertainty, and able to bring structure where it helps without adding unnecessary process. The board may hold gold, silver, copper, Bitcoin, and general hard assets as part of the Foundation's investments. We need a director who is comfortable with the Foundation's approach of investing in sound money and hard assets, and who can weigh their place in a charitable portfolio prudently.
Key responsibilities:- GovernanceAttend board meetings by video, usually held during UK working hours (morning in the US). Expected frequency is quarterly, but may be more in the early days.
- Review and e-sign board resolutions, grant approvals, and other documents within an agreed timeframe, typically five working days.
- Exercise independent judgement in the interests of the Foundation and its charitable purposes, in line with its Certificate of Incorporation, Bylaws, and applicable US law.
- Declare any conflicts of interest and follow the Foundation's conflict of interest policy.
- Work with fellow directors and the Foundation's professional advisers, including its US lawyers and accountants.
- Grants and compliance
- Approve grants to US charities that have passed the Foundation's due diligence.
- Oversee the Foundation's annual IRS Form 990 and its state charitable registrations.
- Support accountability, transparency, and risk management.
- Investment and financial oversight
- Take part in board discussions on how the Foundation holds and manages its assets.
- Weigh the opportunities and risks of investments prudently, in line with a US charity director's duties.
- If appointed as an officer, act as an authorised signatory on the Foundation's US bank account, which involves completing the bank's identity checks.
- Who we are looking for
- EssentialA US citizen or permanent resident, living in the United States.
- Reliable and responsive, able to attend meetings when required, and return signatures promptly.
- Comfort with an endowment model for the Foundation.
- Sound judgement, and an understanding of a nonprofit director's duties, or a willingness to learn them.
- No conflicts of interest with the Foundation, its service providers, or the charities it funds.
Desirable:- Experience on a nonprofit board, or in finance, investment, law, or accounting.
- Familiarity with donor-advised funds or US charitable grant-making.
- Comfortable working across time zones with a UK-based team.
- Practical details
- Voluntary role, with reasonable expenses reimbursed.
- Around three hours a month, plus occasional approvals between meetings.
- A term of three years, renewable.
- Appointment is subject to standard identity and background checks, and to approval in line with the Foundation's Bylaws.
Interview process:- Screening call with Talent (30 minutes)
- Culture Survey (15 minutes)
- Mission Alignment (45 minutes)
- Director Conversation (60 minutes)
- Final candidates invited to a group call with the directors (60 minutes)
