Vice President, Global Supply Chain Environmental Health & Science (Remote)
ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Vice President, Global Supply Chain EHS is the accountable EHS leader for Johnson Controls' global manufacturing and supply-chain network: factories, warehouses, distribution centers, logistics activities and related locations worldwide. The role reports to the Vice President, Global EHS, who sets enterprise EHS direction, and translates that direction into the framework, standards, expertise, assurance and performance system for the network. It leads through regional and site EHS teams and partners with Global Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, Quality, Human Resources, Sustainability and regional leadership. The role delivers results by making SIF (serious injury and fatality) prevention the primary safety priority: identifying high-energy and high-consequence exposures, defining and verifying critical controls where the work happens, and prioritizing elimination and engineering controls over administrative ones. It owns the EHS management system, risk-based assurance and performance framework for the network, and embeds EHS into capital deployment, facility design, equipment, acquisitions and network changes. EHS owns the system; operational leaders own the performance. The role is deliberately not accountable for day-to-day site EHS performance, which sits with plant, distribution and supply-chain leaders, and it holds the influence and escalation access to challenge unacceptable risk.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: A) SIF prevention and critical-risk control
Make SIF prevention the primary safety priority across the network. Establish consistent method to identify high-energy and high-consequence exposures in routine, non-routine, maintenance, contractor and change-related work; define critical controls, accountable owners and verification requirements; and ensure significant incidents, control failures and high-potential events receive rigorous investigation, leadership review and network-wide learning. B) Strategy, standards and governance Develop and execute a multi-year EHS strategy for manufacturing and supply-chain operations, aligned with the Vice President, Global EHS and the operating plan. Translate it into standards, minimum requirements, metrics, investment priorities and roadmaps, and define decision making between enterprise EHS, this function, regional and site EHS teams and operational leadership. C) Critical occupational exposures Set risk-reduction standards and execution requirements for machine safeguarding, crane, hoisting and rigging, lockout/tagout and hazardous energy, electrical safety, powered industrial vehicles and pedestrian interaction, material handling and ergonomics, work at height, confined spaces, contractor safety, industrial hygiene, warehouse and logistics safety, and fire, life safety and emergency response. D) Leadership accountability and safety culture Set clear EHS expectations from executives to frontline supervisors, contractors and EHS professionals. Build frontline capability to recognize hazards and verify critical controls before work proceeds, create real employee participation and stop-work authority, and assess leaders on control quality and responsiveness to risk, not outcomes alone. E) Environmental leadership Establish environmental standards and governance for the network, and ensure effective management of air emissions, wastewater, waste, hazardous materials, spills and permits. Integrate environmental requirements into operations, capital projects, acquisitions and network decisions, in partnership with Sustainability, Engineering and Supply Chain. F) Management system, compliance and assurance Implement and continuously improve a global EHS management system for the network, with governance that provides reasonable assurance of compliance. Run a risk-based audit and assurance program focused on SIF exposures, critical-control effectiveness and high-risk facilities; verify corrective actions before closure; and coordinate significant regulatory matters with Legal and enterprise EHS leadership. Establish network compliance calendar to ensure adequate oversight, control and performance. G) Capital projects, equipment and network changes Embed EHS requirements and design principles into capital planning, equipment procurement, facility design, automation, construction, expansions and relocations, with design reviews and verification before operational handover. Participate in due diligence for acquisitions and major network changes, and ensure risks and remediation are built into integration and investment plans. Partner with counterparts on Field Operations side to solicit improvement opportunities and work to integrate solutions for field performance improvement using the Johnson Controls Business System. H) Performance management and operational excellence Build a performance framework that balances outcomes with leading indicators of exposure, control effectiveness and learning, with consistent definitions and data quality across sites. Deliver executive dashboards and regular reviews with regional, manufacturing, supply-chain and EHS leaders, integrate EHS into the operating system and continuous improvement, and support executive and Board reporting through the Vice President, Global EHS.I) Talent system leadership Lead, develop and strengthen the EHS organization supporting the network at global, regional and site levels. Align resources to facility size, complexity and risk; build expertise in SIF prevention, engineering controls, industrial hygiene and environmental management; build a global EHS community with consistent standards and career paths; and establish succession for every regional and senior site EHS leader. WINNING BEHAVIORSThis role must model and embed Johnson Controls' Winning Behaviors as the "how":1.We Focus on What Matters Go to Gemba in factories and distribution centers, put SIF exposures and critical-control effectiveness ahead of recordable rates, and direct leadership attention and investment to the highest-risk facilities and activities.2.We Win as One TeamRun the network on one EHS operating system, and connect EHS with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Operational Excellence, Sustainability, Legal and HR so that safety is part of how operations run, not a parallel program. Debate the standard openly before it is set, then hold the line.3. We Own the Outcome Hold the EHS organization accountable for the system and operational leaders accountable for performance, escalate significant risk and overdue material actions without delay, and never accept a failed or missing critical control.4.We Improve Every DayTreat every significant incident and high-potential event as learning for the whole network, turn lessons from one site into enterprise learning, such as changes to standards, training, equipment and best practices and reinforce reporting and stop-work authority so problems surface early. KEY LEADERSHIP ATTRIBUTESOperationally credible Engages effectively from the production floor to the executive team and understands practical site execution. Strategic and practical Connects an ambitious global strategy with achievable site priorities and disciplined follow-through. Influential leader of leaders Builds commitment across a matrix while reinforcing operational leaders' accountability for performance; develops regional and site EHS leaders. Data-driven and systems-oriented Uses exposure and control evidence to identify systemic weaknesses and focus action on prevention of significant harm (SIF).Globally minded Works effectively across cultures, geographies, regulatory environments and levels of site maturity. Visible and engaging Builds trust through regular presence in operations and direct engagement with frontline teams. Courageous Escalates significant risk, challenges accepted practices, and advocates for the action and investment needed to protect people and the environment. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
