MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED.Laurel is one of those towns that surprises you. It is a city that has been quietly having a renaissance -- and once you spend a weekend here, you will understand why people come to visit and decide to stay. Here is what makes it special: A Town on the Rise, With Real SoulLaurel has been in the national spotlight thanks to HGTV's hit series "Home Town," hosted by Laurel natives Ben and Erin Napier, whose work renovating historic homes and championing local businesses has helped fuel a remarkable downtown revitalization. The result is a historic district full of character, independently owned restaurants, art galleries, boutiques, and a genuine sense of community pride that you simply cannot manufacture. A Downtown That Actually Lives Central Avenue and Laurel Main Street are lined with local businesses worth exploring. The Lauren Rogers Museum of Art -- Mississippi's first art museum -- offers a permanent collection of American and European art, Japanese woodblock prints, British Georgian silver, and Native American artifacts, all with free admission. On warm evenings, Thursdays at the Plaza transforms downtown into a street fair with live music, food trucks, and local vendors. Landrum's Homestead and Village, a 30-acre living history museum featuring over 85 historic structures and exhibits, offers a one-of-a-kind window into 1800s Southern life. Outdoor Recreation at Your Doorstep Jones County is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Southeast. The De Soto National Forest -- the largest national forest in Mississippi -- is right in your backyard, offering hiking, biking, and camping across hundreds of thousands of acres of longleaf pine and hardwood timberland. The region's rivers, lakes, and trails make it an exceptional home base for anyone who loves the outdoors. And when you need a beach day, the Mississippi Gulf Coast is roughly two hours south, with New Orleans just two hours beyond that. Southern Food and Hospitality That Sets the BarFew things define Laurel more than its food culture and the warmth of its people. Pearl's Diner serves up the kind of fried chicken, mac and cheese, black-eyed peas, and rice and gravy that remind you why Southern cooking has fans worldwide. The dining scene continues to grow, with new restaurants and coffee shops joining a downtown that is expanding every year.

Remarkable Affordability: This is one of the most compelling reasons to consider Laurel. The cost of living is approximately 16 percent below the national average, and housing costs are among the most affordable you will find anywhere in the country. A veterinarian's salary goes dramatically further here than in most metro markets. You can own a beautifully restored historic home, live without financial stress, and build real wealth -- all while doing work you love in a community that needs and values your expertise. Strategically Located for Easy Getaways Laurel sits at the crossroads of Interstate 59 and U.S. Route 84, making it easy to reach Hattiesburg in 30 minutes, New Orleans in approximately two hours, and Gulf Coast beaches in about the same time. The Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport, roughly 25 miles away, offers daily flights to Houston. Wherever you want to go on a long weekend, Laurel puts you within easy reach. A Community That Welcomes YouLaurel is the kind of place where strangers become neighbors quickly. The community is civic-minded, proud of its history, and genuinely excited about its future. If you are looking for a place where your roots can actually take hold, Laurel offers something rare: the chance to matter in a community that is growing into something special.
