Role Summary:
Momentum Youth Brands (MYB) is a private-equity-backed platform growing rapidly through mergers and acquisitions of youth activity businesses, including dance studios, gymnastics facilities, martial arts and swim schools, and squash clubs. As new businesses join MYB, our HR team supports their transition into consistent people processes, systems, and compliance practices. The Human Resources Specialist supports day-to-day HR operations across MYB’s expanding, multi-state organization, including the employee onboarding and HR administration that accompany acquisitions. This role independently manages established processes, helps newly acquired teams transition into Rippling and MYB practices, and provides reliable support to employees and managers while escalating complex HR matters to the Director of Human Resources. The ideal candidate is adaptable, organized, and comfortable with frequent change and competing priorities in a fast-growing environment.
Key Responsibilities: Employee onboarding, acquisition transitions, and offboarding
- Coordinate onboarding for new hires and employees joining through acquisitions, including employee data collection, Rippling setup, required documentation, and transition follow-up.
- Monitor Form I-9 and E-Verify completion, background checks, and outstanding onboarding requirements; coordinate corrections with employees and location leaders.
- Process approved separations, coordinated offboarding and payroll handoffs, and maintain required records.
- Partner with M&A Integration, Payroll, and Operations to track acquisition-related employee transitions and escalate risks or delays. HR administration and employee support
- Maintain accurate employee records and organizational data in Rippling, including approved job, compensation, manager, location, and employment status changes; validate changes affecting payroll.
- Respond to routine employee and manager questions about HR processes, policies, and systems; escalate sensitive or complex matters.
- Prepare routine HR correspondence and employment verifications; support unemployment claims by gathering records, preparing routine responses, and tracking deadlines. Compliance, benefits, and leave administration
- Track required training, policy acknowledgments, state-specific forms, employment notices, and compliance deadlines; assist with ACA eligibility tracking and audits.
- Administer routine benefits enrollments, qualifying life events, eligibility changes, and Open Enrollment support; review carrier invoices, reconcile billing against enrollment records, and coordinate corrections with vendors and Finance.
- Coordinate leave requests and documentation, track leave dates and return-to-work requirements, and initiate workers’ compensation claim documentation and administrative follow-up; escalate complex cases. HR operations and process improvement
- Maintain HR checklists, guides, and trackers that support consistent processes across existing and newly acquired locations.
- Prepare routine HR reports, assist with data validation and audits, and identify process improvements.
- Coordinate with Payroll, Finance, Operations, and location leaders to resolve routine HR issues and communicate timely updates in a remote environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the evolving needs of the Human Resources department and the organization.
Qualifications: Required
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in an HR Specialist, HR Coordinator, or HR Generalist role.
- Experience independently handling onboarding, employee records, HRIS transactions, and routine compliance tasks.
- Working knowledge of Form I-9, E-Verify, and federal and state employment documentation requirements.
- Experience with benefits enrollment, billing reconciliation, leave coordination, and routine HR compliance support.
- Strong organization, accuracy, discretion, communication, and judgment about when to escalate issues.
- Ability to work independently across time zones and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-growing, acquisition-driven organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word. Preferred
- Experience with Rippling or similar HRIS; familiarity with Monday.com is helpful.
- Experience supporting multi-state teams and employee onboarding during acquisitions, particularly in California.
