Private investment platform | Salt Lake City, Utah | Hybrid (Western U.S. preferred; remote considered for the right candidate)
$200,000 - $250,000 base + bonus
This is a hands‑on builder seat for a tax leader who wants real ownership of a function that still has room to scale.
You’ll lead tax for a multi‑entity platform that owns and supports tactical and firearms manufacturing and commercial companies. The structure is partnership/LLC‑heavy, with disregarded entities underneath. Multi‑state sales and use tax (including nexus analysis and acquisition‑related compliance work) is a large part of the role. You’ll also own federal partnership tax positions and review (an outside firm prepares the returns), K‑1s, basis, distributions, and incentive equity, plus federal and state firearms and ammunition excise tax.
You will not be a pure overseer. The team is small, systems still create manual work, and the commercial footprint keeps expanding. The right person for the role needs to set standards, coach and develop people, challenge outside advisors, and drive the process and systems improvements that create capacity. Leadership will support the headcount, technology, and external resources you recommend.
What we’re looking for:
Deep hands‑on partnership and LLC tax experience (distributions, basis, 704(b), incentive equity, multi‑member K‑1s)
Real ownership of multi‑state sales and use tax, including nexus and voluntary disclosure or similar catch‑up work
Player‑coach track record—comfortable leading and developing people while still getting into the technical work
Experience managing and challenging outside advisors
Comfort operating in a high‑growth environment where the commercial plan and entity structure move faster than a traditional compliance calendar
Strongly preferred
Big Four or strong national‑firm training plus operating‑company experience. Manufacturing or product‑level tax exposure. Firearms, ammunition, or analogous excise experience (tobacco is the closest parallel) a plus. M&A tax or systems/automation experience. Curiosity about the products and industry—opposition is not a fit.
This is for someone who wants to build a scalable tax function over multiple years with a growing platform. The stronger candidate wins over geography.
