Forward Deployed Engineer We're a boring AI company. On purpose. Charlotte, NC · Hybrid · Full time Most of the value of AI in a real business isn't magic, it's a machine doing the tedious parts correctly, every time. We listen first, build what actually helps, and we're honest enough to say when AI isn't the answer. Now we're hiring our first Forward Deployed Engineers to sit shoulder-to-shoulder with our clients and build it with them.
The role:
Forward Deployed Engineer means exactly what it sounds like: you get embedded with our clients and build alongside them. You'll sit in the conversations where problems actually get defined — not just where tickets get assigned — and turn ambiguous business needs into working software, fast. You'll get direct support from our product and engineering leadership, and just as importantly, you'll learn alongside them and help shape how we build as we grow. Sprint demos are part of our practice, and you'll run them. You'll be in front of clients regularly — discovery sessions, working sessions, demos, and the occasional hard conversation — and you'll own outcomes, not just code. We're leaning into how the engineering role is evolving. In a given week you might wear the hats of product owner, designer, engineer, test engineer, and DevOps. If you're energized by navigating how AI is changing this profession — while still holding onto the fundamentals that make software actually work — you'll fit right in.
What you'll do:- Embed with client teams to understand their business, their workflows, and where software and AI can genuinely help
- Translate messy, ambiguous business problems into scoped, shippable solutions
- Build and deploy production software end to end... discovery through design, implementation, testing, and operations
- Run sprint demos and working sessions with client stakeholders
- Work daily with AI development tools and agentic workflows, and bring real judgment to what they produce
- Partner directly with company leadership on solution direction and client strategy
- What we're looking for1–5 years of software engineering experience
- A degree in computer science or a similar field
- Solid software engineering fundamentals: you can design, build, debug, and ship production systems and explain your decisions
- Strong fundamentals in at least one language and framework
- Experience building with modern stacks
- Comfort in the room with clients: you listen well, ask sharp questions, communicate clearly, and stay composed when requirements shift
- Genuine comfort with ambiguity (you'd rather figure out the right thing to build than be handed a spec)
- An ownership mindset: you care about the client's outcome, not just your commit history
- Enthusiasm for AI-assisted development paired with the discipline to verify, test, and hold a quality bar
- Location and travel
This is a Charlotte, NC based role. We're remote to start, and we'll transition to a hybrid rhythm once we open our Charlotte office, which we expect within the next year or so. We are forward deployed. That means we'll often travel (by car) to our client's offices and meet subject matter experts in person
Occasional flight travel is part of the job (think quarterly, plus the odd conference) not a weekly grind. We're a team of parents and we build our travel expectations accordingly.
Compensation and benefits:- Competitive salary
- Health insurance
- Unlimited PTONo equity — we'd rather tell you that upfront than dress it up. Profit sharing is something we're exploring as we grow.
- The chance to help build an engineering practice from the ground up, working directly with leadership — and the networking, exposure, and experience that come with being early
- About CoMavenAIOur tagline is “Your Vision, Engineered,” and we mean it. We build custom AI systems that eliminate tedious work — sales automation, workflow automation, and custom forward-deployed builds embedded inside our clients' teams.
