Respiratory Therapy Student

St. David’s Medical Center in Austin, TX is seeking a Respiratory Therapy Student (PRN) to support our respiratory care team in a fast-paced acute care setting. Under the supervision of licensed respiratory therapists, you will assist with patient assessments, basic treatments, equipment setup, and monitoring of respiratory status. This role offers exposure to advanced clinical practices, strong preceptor support, and opportunities to build skills while contributing to high-quality, compassionate, patient-centered care in a collaborative environment. Assist licensed respiratory therapists with patient assessments and treatments Set up, check, and clean respiratory therapy equipment under supervision Monitor and document patients’ respiratory status and vital signs in the EMR Administer basic respiratory therapies as allowed by program and policy Follow infection control, safety, and patient identification protocols Communicate patient changes promptly to the care team Support emergency response efforts within scope (e.g., CPR/BLS) Participate in learning opportunities, in-services, and skills development Basic respiratory therapy procedures Patient assessment Vital signs monitoring Oxygen therapy administration Ventilator support assistance Airway management support Electronic medical record documentation Infection control practices CPR/BLS Interdisciplinary team communication Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance 401k Current enrollment in an accredited respiratory therapy program Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Eligibility for Texas respiratory care student status per state regulations Compliance with hospital onboarding, health, and background requirements
