Director of Children's Ministry, Douglasville First UMC
9/24/2026We're Looking for Someone Who Loves Kids as Much as We Do
Director of Children's Ministries — Douglasville First United Methodist Church
Douglasville First United Methodist Church is a community of imperfect people growing together in faith, love, and service. We believe church should feel like family — a place where you belong before you believe, where questions are welcome, and where kids know from the moment they walk in that they are loved. We're looking for a Director of Children's Ministries to help make that true for every child, birth through 5th grade, who comes through our doors.
The Role:
This is a part-time, relational leadership role (about 20 hours a week) for someone who lights up around kids and their families. You'll be the steady, familiar face children look for on Sunday mornings, the one who helps parents feel supported rather than judged, and the creative force behind a Children's Ministry that's warm, welcoming, and just plain fun.
Why You'll Love It Here:
A congregation that genuinely believes church is better together — you won't be building this ministry alone.
A close-knit staff team and a Pastor who wants to partner with you on vision, not just hand you a job description.
A built-in connection to Little Scholars Academy, our weekday preschool, so you'll have relationships with families before they ever set foot in worship.
Room to bring your own creativity to curriculum, events, and how we do things — we're not looking for someone to run a program by rote.
A flexible, part-time schedule built around what families and ministry actually need, not rigid office hours.

What You'll Do:
Be the consistent, trusted presence for kids and families every week.
Recruit and equip volunteers who love kids as much as you do.
Choose and guide curriculum that's engaging, age-appropriate, and rooted in God's love.
Plan the events families actually look forward to — think Vacation Bible School, family nights, and milestone Sundays.
Partner with parents, not just program at them, so faith takes root at home too.
What We're Looking For:
A bachelor's degree, earned or in progress, is required; a master's degree (earned or in progress) makes an exceptional candidate stand out.
Experience in children's ministry, Christian education, teaching, or a related field.
A warm, organized, creative person who's as comfortable on the floor with a room full of preschoolers as behind the scenes planning what's next.
A committed Christian who is glad to serve within a United Methodist congregation and its Wesleyan heritage of grace and good works.
