The Institute for Portfolio Alternatives (IPA) is seeking a Manager, Member Engagement. The IPA is a growing, collaborative team that moves quickly and performs at a high standard, focused on delivering exceptional value for its members. This role is about more than running meetings. The Manager, Member Engagement will partner with committee chairs and IPA staff to shape committee conversations, and will lead engagement across IPA's member firms, from helping new members get involved in their first year to deepening participation among current members. The goal is simple: every member firm should get full value from its IPA membership, with the right people involved in the right places. We value organization, initiative, and curiosity. The ideal candidate is confident working with senior professionals, brings ideas while letting subject matter experts lead, and makes sure nothing falls through the cracks. Industry expertise is not required, but a genuine interest in learning the business of our members is. The IPA is based in Washington, D.C.; the position is fully remote, with occasional travel for IPA conferences and in-person meetings.
What You Will Do:
Shape Committee Agendas: Partner with committee chairs and IPA subject matter staff to identify timely topics, set priorities, line up speakers, and build agendas that make each meeting worth members’ time. Run Committees Well: Own committee operations end-to-end—scheduling, invitations, materials, meeting support, and follow-up—and capture key takeaways, decisions, and action items so work keeps moving between meetings. Understand Member Engagement: Know how each member organization engages throughout the IPA. Use that understanding to decide what to do next, such as which members to contact, which programs to recommend, or where a firm could get more value from its membership. Lead Outreach to Member Firms: Conduct structured engagement conversations with member organizations to understand their priorities, recommend relevant committees, programs, and events, and expand participation beyond a firm’s primary contacts. Keep Member Information Current: Maintain accurate committee rosters, contacts, and engagement records in IPA’s member management system, partnering with colleagues on ongoing data updates. Measure and Report: Track engagement indicators, share insights with IPA leadership, and align committee and program work with IPA’s broader strategic priorities. Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Head of Operations Who You Are: Highly organized and proactive, able to manage many moving parts at once and follow through consistently. Confident and polished with senior executives—comfortable offering ideas and structure to committee chairs while letting subject matter experts lead. Curious and analytical about members, able to spot patterns in engagement data and turn them into action. An excellent writer and communicator who builds strong relationships and responds promptly and professionally. Experienced in a client-facing role, ideally in a corporate or professional services environment. Association, membership or nonprofit experience is welcome but not required. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Teams/Zoom, and CRM.Total compensation (base salary + bonus): $90,000 (base + bonus), commensurate with experience. About the Institute for Portfolio Alternatives: For over four decades, the IPA has been the preeminent voice of the alternative investments and private markets industry. Our members include the world’s leading asset managers—representing more than $40 trillion in AUM—alongside the broker-dealers, RIAs, and wealth management firms that bring alternative strategies to investors. Together, they span private real estate, private credit, private equity, infrastructure, and other alternative assets. Through leading advocacy, flagship conferences in the U.S. and internationally, and a growing platform for data and research, the IPA is at the center of private markets’ expansion into mainstream portfolios.
