Tax Manager About Symax, Ltd. Symax, Ltd. is a private family office located in Solon, Ohio. Since 1995, our team has managed the tax, accounting, trust, investment, and financial affairs of a prominent multigenerational Cleveland family. We are a small, experienced team that values discretion, accuracy, and long-term relationships. Several employees have been with the family for more than 20 years, and we are looking for a Tax Manager who wants to build a lasting career while continuing to perform complex and meaningful tax work.
Position Overview:
The Tax Manager will be responsible for the family office's income-tax compliance and planning. This position will manage the preparation of several hundred returns involving high-net-worth individuals, trusts, partnerships, LLCs, S corporations, and related family entities. You'll prepare returns, calculate estimated payments and projections, identify planning opportunities, respond to tax notices, and work closely with the Head of the Family Office and Finance Manager. This is an ideal opportunity for a CPA who enjoys sophisticated tax work but wants a more balanced schedule without billable-hour requirements, client-development expectations, or collection responsibilities.
What You'll Do:- Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, trusts, partnerships, LLCs, S corporations, and related family entities
- Manage a tax calendar covering several hundred annual returns
- Calculate quarterly estimated tax payments and extension liabilities
- Prepare annual tax projections and evaluate planning opportunities
- Analyze investments, transactions, and business activities for tax implications
- Maintain organized tax files, workpapers, and supporting documentation
- Respond to tax notices, audits, inquiries, and correspondence from taxing authorities
- Monitor tax-law developments and evaluate their impact on the family
- Coordinate with outside tax advisors, legal counsel, and investment professionals
- Collaborate with the Head of the Family Office, Finance Manager, and accounting team
- Support limited multistate and private-foundation tax matters
- Ensure all tax work is completed accurately, confidentially, and on time
Required Qualifications:
Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 4+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, a family office, private wealth, or a high-net-worth individual tax practice
Hands-on experience preparing complex tax returns including:
- Individuals
- TrustsPartnerships and LLCsS corporations
- Experience calculating estimated payments, extensions, and tax projections
- Ability to research tax issues and interpret relevant tax law
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- High level of accuracy, integrity, and discretion
Preferred Qualifications:- Previous family-office, private-wealth, estate, gift, or private-client tax experienceExperience with Intuit ProSeries or comparable professional tax-preparation software
- Experience with tax planning for high-net-worth individuals and family entities
- Exposure to multistate taxation
- Private-foundation tax experienceExperience responding to tax notices, audits, or examinations

This is a hybrid position with three days per week in the office and two days remote. Work hours are flexible within a traditional business-day schedule. The current office is in Solon, Ohio, with a planned move to nearby Chagrin Falls in spring or early summer 2027.
Compensation & Benefits:- $110,000–$135,000 base salary based on experience
