Job Description:
Job Description A commercial fence contractor is seeking an Outside Sales Representative to lead business development for its commercial fence services, selling to general contractors and EPCs across the Houston market, while also cross-selling its steel road plate and trench box rental line to pipeline, utility, and site-development contractors in the same market.
Position Summary:
The primary focus of this role is winning new commercial fence work with general contractors and EPCs across the Houston market — building relationships that get the company added to bid lists and converted into recurring work. The role also carries responsibility for cross-selling steel road plate and trench box rentals to pipeline, utility, and underground/site-development contractors. The ideal candidate already carries an active network of relationships with GCs and EPCs in the Houston market and knows how to convert those relationships into bid invitations and repeat business.
Key Responsibilities:
Drive outbound business development for commercial fence work with general contractors, EPCs, and subcontractors across the Houston market.
Build and maintain relationships with estimators, preconstruction managers, purchasing teams, and project superintendents to get added to bid lists and invited to quote.
Cross-sell steel road plate and trench box rentals to pipeline, utility, and site-development contractors within the existing account base, while identifying new rental prospects.
Manage and work a structured account list of several hundred active and prospective accounts, tracked in a CRM/tracker, with disciplined follow-up and status updates.
Attend industry events (AGC chapter meetings, Houston Contractors Association events, trade shows) and maintain in-person relationships with clients in the Houston market.
Monitor public bid postings (City of Houston council agendas, TxDOT lettings, Harris County Flood Control District, and similar sources) to identify new project leads.
Report pipeline activity, new contacts, and bid status to leadership on a regular cadence.
Qualifications:
5+ years of outside sales or business development experience selling into general contractors, EPCs, or construction subcontractors, ideally in fencing, building materials, equipment rental, or site-utility services.
An existing, active network of general contractor and EPC relationships in the Houston market.
A demonstrated track record of getting a company added to GC bid lists and converting that access into recurring, repeat work.
Comfort with high-volume outbound prospecting and disciplined CRM/pipeline management across a large account list.
Self-motivated and able to work independently across a large territory with minimal day-to-day supervision.
Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:- Prior experience selling equipment rental (plates, mats, trench boxes, shoring, or similar) to pipeline, utility, or underground contractors.
