Job Description:
Mission Lane is combining the power of data, technology, and exceptional service to pave a clear way forward for millions of people on the path to financial success. By attracting top talent and leveraging cutting-edge technology, we're enabling people to unlock real financial progress. Sound like a mission you can get behind? We're looking for a Principal Business Analyst to shape how we manage credit for our existing customers, reporting to the Senior Director, Portfolio Management. The impact you'll make: For a lot of our customers, getting their Mission Lane credit card is the first step toward building their credit. But what comes next is where the real progress happens: earning a higher credit line or a better rate, or qualifying for a second card. As a Principal Business Analyst, you design the strategy that decides who's ready for that next step, and what it should look like. The skill is building criteria that read how someone's managed what they already have, then account for how a change like that would ripple through the rest of their account. Get that right, and more people keep moving forward toward their goals. Mission Lane is still young, but we've landed in an exciting, stable stretch of maturation. We're still building but we've already got a solid foundation. There's never been a better time to learn and grow right along with us. As Principal Business Analyst, you will: Lead efforts to decide who qualifies for more credit, a second card, or better terms, and how we make those calls Use AI-driven tools to speed up and sharpen your analysis Adjust our approach as customer behavior and the market change Turn financial data into clear recommendations that grow the business while managing risk responsibly Run small tests in market, then use what you learn to decide where we invest next Work with product, data science, engineering, and capital markets to bring your ideas to life Share your strategy and results directly with senior leadership You'll thrive in this role if: You understand the whole card business system, from acquisition to risk to engagement, and you can trace how a change in one part ripples through the rest. You're curious enough to dig into the reasoning behind your own analysis, down to the assumptions it's built on, so you understand it at an elemental level You take ownership of your work end to end, catching your own mistakes before they compound. You can explain a business problem clearly enough that someone outside your immediate team could follow your thinking.
Minimum qualifications:- 2+ years of experience in a highly analytical role
- A bachelor's or master's degree in economics, finance, engineering, mathematics, or a similarly quantitative field, with a strong academic record
- A track record of solving open-ended business problems: framing the question, forming a hypothesis, working through the data, and defending your recommendation to stakeholders
- Comfort working in SQL, Python, or similar tools for data analysis
- Ability to travel ~4-6+ times per year for high quality in-person collaboration
Preferred qualifications:- Experience working with credit cards or other consumer lending products
- Experience helping scale a business in a fast-moving startup environment
- Strong SQL or Python skills
Experience using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor, etc.)

About Mission Lane: Founded in December 2018, Mission Lane is a purpose-driven fintech company based in the U.S., with headquarters in Richmond, Virginia. It all started with a realization: nearly fifty percent of the adult population in the U.S. doesn't have access to a clear line of credit. Most traditional credit card companies either overlook or overcharge this group because they have less-than-perfect credit scores or no scores at all. We decided this just wouldn't do. In partnership with our sponsor banks, we offer credit cards under the Mission Lane brand name, with better, clearer terms, and a more refined customer experience than the alternatives available to people working hard to improve their credit. To date, over four million consumers have chosen Mission Lane, earning high customer ratings on Credit Karma for its market segment and industry leading Net Promoter scores. Mission Lane has cumulatively raised over $600 million of equity from leading investors, including Invus Opportunities, QED Investors, LL Funds, funds affiliated with Oaktree Capital Management, and other leading investors.
