Sr. Commissioning Engineer & DMV Practice Lead

Location: Metro Washington, DC About CEG Solutions CEG Solutions is a leading provider of energy and commissioning services, combining Iconergy’s Rocky Mountain Region roots with CEG Solutions’ nationwide expertise in advanced energy solutions. As one firm, we bring deep technical capabilities and a national footprint to deliver exceptional results for our clients. As part of our growth, we are seeking an experienced seller-doer to establish and grow our commissioning practice in the Washington DC, Virginia, and Maryland region. A portfolio of GSA federal building projects anchors this role, giving you a strong base of work from day one — your mission is to build on it, together with your own industry relationships, to establish a lasting commissioning presence across the DMV and the team to support it. You will lead high-impact commissioning projects while developing the client relationships, proposals, and staff that turn our federal foothold into a thriving regional business. Our job is to ensure the building owner’s vision becomes reality. We take the time to understand that vision, then serve as a key technical partner throughout design and construction. As part of a larger project team, we build strong, positive relationships that keep the focus where it belongs — on the owner’s goals. We also invest in each other. By learning, sharing knowledge, and supporting one another — especially during crunch time — we make our team stronger and our work more rewarding. In this role, you will be both a technical leader and the face of our commissioning practice in the region. Your ability to win and grow client relationships, deliver on commitments, and develop a growing team will directly shape the business you help build. This is a unique opportunity to join a company at the forefront of energy efficiency and commissioning services — where your work will directly impact how buildings operate and perform. Compensation & incentives: In addition to a competitive base salary and a full benefits package, this role carries incentives that rewards you directly for the work you win and the practice you grow — so your success building the DMV market is reflected in what you earn. A Day In The Life Of The Successful Candidate During an office day, you might work on these types of tasks: Win and grow the region’s book of business — cultivate relationships with owners, agencies, and A/E and contractor partners, represent the firm at speaking and industry events, and lead proposal development and project interviews. Serve as the senior client contact and account owner, keeping projects aligned with the owner’s goals and spotting follow-on and new-business opportunities. Direct and mentor commissioning staff, growing regional staff as the pipeline expands, and set the technical and quality standards the practice is known for. Oversee commissioning delivery across new construction and retrofit projects — from test planning and functional testing through analysis, issues resolution, and deliverables. Review drawings, specifications, and product data submittals across projects to confirm the design and installed equipment meet the owner’s intent. Review and finalize the reports that communicate our key findings to owners and other external audiences. Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and design and construction teams to resolve issues and keep work moving. During a Day In The Field, You Might Lead a commissioning coordination meeting with the owner or owner’s representative, design team, and key contractors. Spend a day with a contractor to test and explore the systems they installed, proactively asking thoughtful questions to identify and resolve issues and documenting outstanding issues. Witness and report on the startup of a new system on the owner’s behalf to troubleshoot as needed. Spend a day on the roof or climbing ladders to access and assess equipment in difficult-to-reach spaces. Travel overnight to conduct work (historically less than 20% of the time). You’ll work in a place that encourages you to: Operate with autonomy and real ownership over how the practice runs. Build something — create the processes and playbooks where none previously existed. Identify and pursue new opportunities to expand our footprint, services, and reputation in the DMV. Take pride in your work and share your enthusiasm in a way that brings clients and colleagues along with you. Keep sharpening both your technical and your leadership edge. Special Site Considerations - Working in facilities requires a certain sensibility. For example, you may need to: Be cognizant of your surroundings and on guard at all times. Adhere to strict protocols established by the customer regarding interactions with occupants and management. Follow CEG’s and our client’s safety protocols. Be ready to adapt to changing situations and the unique considerations that exist in different parts of a facility. Treat everyone that you encounter with dignity while completing your professional responsibilities efficiently.

Possess established relationships with building owners, general contractors, and A/E partners in the DMV market.
