Location:
Remote, with the exception of 3 (consecutive) days per quarter required onsite in Parsippany, NJ: Travel and lodging for onsite visits are at the candidate’s own expense, so candidates local to the Parsippany, NJ area are strongly preferred. The final interview round is also in person in Parsippany. This is a long term (with potential full-time employment conversion) contract opportunity through DWS working for our end client.
JOB DESCRIPTION: About the role
Our client is hiring a Data Engineer to join their digital team on an ongoing project. You’ll work on a mature Snowflake platform and own the design, development and performance of data solutions from requirements through production support.
What you’ll do:
- Design and build data warehouse solutions in Snowflake across the full development lifecycle: planning, requirements, development, testing and QADevelop data pipelines and transformations in Python and SQLDiagnose and tune SQL queries to keep the platform fast, reliable and scalable
- Build and maintain orchestrated workflows (Airflow, Informatica, Automic or similar)
- Troubleshoot incidents, find root causes, fix and document issues, and put preventive measures in place
- Work with the engineering team to choose and implement the best technical solutions
- Maintain metadata and data lineage, and hold a high standard for code quality and design
- Manage your deliverables in a fast-paced environment
- What you need 10+ years designing and developing data solutions in enterprise environments 4+ years hands-on with Snowflake, including data warehouse design and development
- Expert-level Python and SQL, including analytical/window functions and query tuning
- Hands-on experience with orchestration tools (Airflow, Informatica, Automic or similar)
- Shell scripting and JavaScript
- A working understanding of metadata management and data lineage
- Experience with Git, Confluence and Jira 2+ years of professional experience in the U.S.Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, and a collaborative, clear communicator
Nice to have:
- Azure Data Factory or other Azure data services (equivalent experience on other clouds is welcome)
- Pharma, life sciences or omnichannel data experience
- Hands-on use of AI tools in your engineering work (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT)
