Director of Talent Acquisition & Assessment Ashland, Oregon | In office four days per week, one day remote. The Mission At Blue Marble, good enough isn't in our vocabulary. We care deeply about who joins our team because every hire shapes what the company becomes. We're looking for a Director of Talent Acquisition & Assessment who can help us find exceptional people and make better hiring decisions. You'll define what great looks like, build strong candidate pipelines, and look past polished resumes to understand what someone has actually accomplished and how they operate. This isn't a role for someone who simply moves candidates through a funnel. You'll have real ownership, direct partnership with hiring leaders, and the opportunity to help shape how Blue Marble hires as we grow. Can you tell the difference between someone who interviews well and someone who will actually perform? If that question excites you, keep reading.
What You'll Do:
Guard the Standard. Partner with hiring leaders to define top-tier performance and focus each search on the capabilities that actually matter.
Hunt & Attract. Proactively find, engage, and win over exceptional candidates - including people who aren't actively looking.
Assess with Precision. Dig beneath polished resumes and rehearsed answers to understand what candidates personally did, how they think, and what they can deliver.
Be a Talent Advisor. Bring evidence into hiring decisions, run productive debriefs, and respectfully challenge the room when a candidate hasn't earned the next step.
Build a Better Machine. Improve sourcing, interview frameworks, scorecards, tools, candidate experience, and hiring-manager calibration as we learn what works.
Drive Momentum. Own the pipeline from first contact through accepted offer and keep multiple high-priority searches moving without sacrificing quality.
What You BringA Nose for High Performers. You can separate confidence from competence, team success from individual contribution, and real capability from great interviewing.
Exceptional Listening. You notice when someone hasn't actually answered the question and know how to go deeper without coaching them toward the answer.
A Hunter's Instinct. You know how to identify strong passive candidates, earn their attention, and turn curiosity into genuine interest.
A Builder's Mentality. You don't just operate a recruiting process. You look for ways to make it better, more consistent, and more effective.
Backbone & Credibility. You're comfortable working with strong leaders, challenging assumptions, and making a clear recommendation when the evidence points one way.
Execution & Velocity. You move quickly, follow through, and can keep several important searches moving without losing the details that matter.
What It Takes:
Generally 6+ years of progressively responsible experience in full-cycle talent acquisition, executive search, high-performing agency recruiting, or closely related work.
Demonstrated success recruiting across multiple functions and levels, including difficult-to-fill or senior roles.
Strong proactive sourcing and passive-candidate engagement experience.
Meaningful experience with structured behavioral interviewing, talent assessment, or a related discipline.
Evidence that you have built, redesigned, or materially improved recruiting or candidate-assessment processes.
Working fluency with LinkedIn Recruiter, ATS platforms, modern sourcing tools, hiring compliance, and confidential candidate information.
What Sets You Apart:
Traditional recruiting experience by itself isn't enough for this role. We're especially interested in people with additional depth in organizational or industrial psychology, behavioral interviewing, executive search, talent or leadership assessment, organizational development, coaching, or people development. A formal psychology background is a plus, but demonstrated expertise matters more than credentials. Experience building talent systems in a growing company, recruiting across consumer products or multidisciplinary teams, or assessing senior leaders will also stand out.
How We'll Measure Success:
You won't be measured simply by how many jobs you fill. We'll care about the quality of the candidates you advance, how well your judgment holds up later in the process, the performance and retention of the people we hire, the confidence hiring leaders have in your recommendations, and whether our hiring process gets smarter and stronger over time. Is Blue Marble Right for You? We're intentionally building a culture of people who lead by example, challenge one another respectfully, take ownership of their work, and want to continue learning and improving. Blue Marble may be exactly the place you're looking for if...You take ownership of your words, actions, and work product. You value honest, hard conversations and long-term progress over short-term comfort. You enjoy solving meaningful problems and seek purposeful work. You see feedback as an opportunity to improve and grow. You naturally look for ways to make things better and help others succeed. You ask questions when something isn't clear. You believe character matters as much as competence. You proactively bring solutions to problems. On the other hand, you probably won't enjoy working here if...You spend more time making excuses or pointing fingers than solving problems. You consistently avoid difficult conversations. You believe your responsibility ends with your job description. You need someone to constantly tell you what to do. You become defensive when receiving constructive feedback. You believe being right is more important than finding the best solution. You consistently wait for instructions rather than taking appropriate initiative. You have difficulty acknowledging mistakes and learning from them. You're primarily looking for a paycheck rather than an opportunity to meaningfully contribute. We're not looking for perfect people. We're looking for capable people who want to keep getting better and who bring their best to the people and work around them. If this sounds like you, let's make great things together. This description isn't exhaustive; responsibilities may evolve as Blue Marble grows. Blue Marble is an equal opportunity employer. We consider qualified applicants without regard to any characteristic protected by applicable law and provide reasonable accommodations throughout the hiring process.
