Senior Project Manager — Structural SteelFuture Director of Construction | Leadership Opportunity Structural Components Fabrication (SCF) | Paragon, Indiana Full-Time | Salaried | Relocation Assistance Available Build Something Bigger Than Your Next Project. At Structural Components Fabrication (SCF), we believe great companies are built by people who take ownership, challenge the status quo, and genuinely care about the people working alongside them. We're a growing commercial steel fabrication company in rural Paragon, Indiana, with a mission to Build the Communities Around Us. We fabricate structural and miscellaneous steel for commercial construction projects, and we're building a company known for its speed, quality, integrity, and ability to solve problems that others can't. We're looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager with at least 10 years in the structural steel industry who wants more than another job managing projects. We're looking for someone who wants to help build a department, develop a team, influence the direction of a growing company, and potentially step into the role of Head of Construction within the next 2–3 years. This is an opportunity for someone who wants a seat at the table and is willing to earn it. What Makes SCF Different? We operate a little differently than most construction companies. We're fast. Really fast. Our team is constantly solving problems, adjusting priorities, and finding ways to get things done better than we did yesterday. We don't believe in micromanagement. We hire capable people, trust them to make decisions, and expect them to take ownership. We also believe that work should be about more than collecting a paycheck. Our employees are partners in building this company. We share meals, celebrate wins, welcome families into our workplace community, and make a deliberate effort to ensure people feel valued and included. We believe in transparency, accountability, and treating people like people. And we're doing all of this in the countryside of southern Indiana, away from the traffic, congestion, and constant rush of a major city. If you're someone who enjoys small town values and big time goals, values independence, and wants to do meaningful work with good people, this opportunity might be exactly what you're looking for.
What You'll Be Responsible For:
You'll initially take ownership of commercial structural and miscellaneous steel projects from contract award through completion, while progressively helping build and lead SCF's project management operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
Manage multiple commercial steel fabrication projects simultaneously, overseeing budgets, schedules, contracts, subcontractors, and customer expectations.
Serve as a primary point of contact for general contractors, erectors, detailers, and other project stakeholders.
Anticipate challenges, resolve conflicts, and keep projects moving without waiting for someone else to provide direction.
Negotiate contracts, manage change orders, and protect project profitability.
Provide field direction and coordinate with erection subcontractors to resolve jobsite challenges.
Review estimates and support project handoffs from estimating to execution.
Mentor and coach developing project managers, delegating responsibilities that help them grow.
Identify inefficiencies, improve processes, and implement systems that make our entire operation stronger.
Collaborate with estimating, purchasing, detailing, and production to ensure projects move smoothly through our facility.
Help develop the structure, accountability, and processes of a growing project management department.
Within your first year, you could reasonably expect to begin taking on direct reports and greater departmental leadership responsibilities.
Our longer-term vision is for the right person to grow into Head of Construction, overseeing project management, estimating, and business development while participating in SCF's leadership team and strategic planning.
This is a development path, not an automatic promotion. Your performance, leadership, and ability to build a successful team will determine how that opportunity evolves.
