Additional Responsibilities: The Yang Laboratory at The Ohio State University is an NIH-funded research program dedicated to understanding the mechanisms of corneal nerve regeneration and ocular pain in the context of diabetes, ocular trauma, and other neuropathic diseases. Our research investigates how metabolic dysfunction and tissue injury impair corneal innervation, leading to chronic pain and sensory abnormalities, with the ultimate goal of developing innovative therapies that restore nerve function and improve patient outcomes. We employ a highly interdisciplinary and translational research approach that integrates human iPSC-based models, in vivo disease models, advanced Ca²⁺ imaging, confocal microscopy, molecular cloning, gene editing, behavioral phenotyping, functional assays of nerve regeneration and pain signaling, and multi-omics technologies. By bridging fundamental neuroscience, stem cell biology, bioengineering, and clinical translation, our laboratory seeks to accelerate the development of next-generation therapeutics for ocular neuropathic diseases. We are seeking highly motivated trainees who are excited to work at the interface of neuroscience, stem cell biology, and regenerative medicine. Applicants with a strong background in stem cell biology and neuroscience are especially encouraged to apply, and expertise in both areas is highly preferred.
